Honda seems to leave out just the oddest things
The MPG meter would have been great and also mirror turning signals

Here's what I did. Not the best place to constantly look at it, but it's good for knowing your avg mpg during trips and also to check the distance to empty. After letting it calibrate, it's very accurate. I only take a look at it for a split second or so while driving if I'm really curious about my mpg. I don't use it for instantaneous mpg though bc of the location. However, it's a very clean install.

|drowned12||Torque supposedly does some computation to determine MPG. Any OBDII reader compatible with Torque should be able to give you mpg.|

I just wanted to get one to get general readings. Hopefully upgrade to the better ones later on. Do you know if the app is available on the App Store. I would like to set it up on my ipad if possible to have a bigger screen but can use my phone if needed.

^^ Coincidentally that's the one I threw out to purchase a Scantool after 2 weeks when it decided it only want to refresh the OBDII data once every 10 seconds (and out of the box Torque would sporadically say it was faulty). My Scantool has something like 10x the refresh rate of that tool (when it was working).
If you want to go the cheap route, just buy one off ebay. They all come from the same factory in China and put different stickers on the top. With ebay you at least don't pay the Amazon convenience tax.

As far as the paid app goes, it only adds minor things such as diesel engines and a larger selection of graphics; however, I will eventually upgrade just as an appreciation for the amazing work that was done with this app.
For mpg I set up mine up as follows. You can have dials on multiple screen pages, all customizable for type of sensor, size of display, etc. I set up one screen that shows six displays (Average mpg, Instant mpg, Trip mpg, Trip in miles, Engine revs in rpm and Speed in mph). On another screen I have one full screen size indicator that just shows Instant mpg, so it is easier to see. My third screen has a bunch of other indicators that I change around just to play with different sensors. My fourth and fifth screens each have one of the widgets which are also available.

The "cheap" OBDII readers are junk in comparison to the real thing which is Scantool. It's 10x more expensive than the Chinese ebay specials, but it's 10x the tool...much faster data updates, doesn't break in a week, doesn't constantly cause Torque to display "faulty reader". Etc.
That said, I love my setup. As opposed to UltraGauge, I'm using a regular tablet that I tether with my phone so I can watch Youtube videos when I'm parked waiting for someone/something. I also have 7 inches of 1280x800 to work with, so I can (and do) have 12 readouts going at the same time.

Yeah, that's one of those things I'll never understand about Honda. My brother's '13 Ridgeline Sport has a MPG meter and backup camera, but doesn't have an outside air temperature gauge or USB input. It's just strange to me that they don't standardize a certain set of features.
In the continued pursuit for better MPG, the mostly-loathed "ECON" function/button introduced on the 2G Insight has propagated to the CR-Z, Civic, CR-V, and Accord, yet a simple MPG meter and "miles to empty" display is absent in a $30K EX-L...
Edit: Forgot to add that I don't think they are gimmicky. I know they are not 100% accurate, but going on my own experiences, and reports of others on the Insight forums (and obviously they can be somewhat obsessive about MPG), the meter was usually reported to be within 1-2MPG of the manual calculation (miles/gallons).

MPG Indicator? Why is it not standard?
My '07 CRV LX has an MPG readout next to the odometer.
My '10 Accord EX-L V6 doesn't...
Why would a newer, higher end model not have this feature?
Is it gimicky? Is it fairly accurate?
I believe it is only on the Navi version of the 8th gen Accords, am I right?
