96accordcoupe Majority of the 4cyl's are the BAXA transmission. So I am not sure if you would be able to compare it to the vin unless you had the tranny off the car and found some kind of stamping on the casing telling otherwise.

DJR I did end up finding the tag on the trans. There are two bar codes. Under the first one reads "BAXA -- 6154079" and under that says "XPAX30" and then the other barcode under that. I'm confused now. The dealer claimed he found record of it; however, I never physically saw the documentation. Hmmm....

DJR I am one to love all original cars. And I want to be able to say that my car has 225K on the original drive train. This is not the case however. The transmission is out of a 2000 Honda accord the only plus side, it has had internal parts replaced on it. The dealer found records of it being done at the dealer 30 mins away from this one.

03LXV6 I would actually be happy to see that the transmission is not original especially on a car that old.

nehonda Accord transmissions have a serial number which is different form the VIN tag number. My 2000 has a label stuck to the transmission housing below the starter. I dont know if it stamped into the case anywhere or not.
According to the Accord service manual, US built 4 cyl transmissions start with BAXA prefix followed by a 7 digit serial number.
1998 started with 5000001
1999s started with 6000001
2000 and 2001 started with 7000001
2002 started with 8000001.

Hope it helps

Transmission VIN tag?

Hey guys, I was poking around under the hood of my '99 4 cylinder, and found on the bellhousing of the transmission, right next to the starter "2000" written in sharpie. First thought: damn this is a USED transmission! > I couldn't find a VIN plate, is there one on the 99's? Can someone tell me where it should be? I'm upset cause I thought this thing was all original.
