Accord Sport Car Insurance Categorization

Anyone know why the Accord Sport is considered a "sports" car to car insurance companies? My current provider used the VIN# for my Accord Sport and considered it a sports car...aka my premium is redic

I read that companies have different rules for considering a car a sports car...

Any thoughts?

My Accord Sport is considered a "mid-size sedan". It replaced the 2012 Ford Focus on my insurance and the rate is actually $8 a month *less* for the same exact coverage. Granted, the Focus actually had a higher sticker (like $4k higher), but that's a seemingly marginal difference.

Step 1. Classify family sedan as sports car because it's the "Sport" trim
Step 2. Increase price for premiums
Step 3. People won't question why or will just shrug shoulders and pay higher premium
Step 4. Profit!

Re: Accord Sport Car Insurance Categorization

My insurance covered my sport as a family sedan. It's in no way a sports car. Has a sporty look only. I went from an old beat up truck with out fill coverage to this car with full coverage and only have a 20 dollar increase.

What insurance company do you have? This is so people can avoid this company.

2013 Accord LX (MSM)

Ridiculous is classifying a 4 cyl Honda Accord LX sedan as a sports car because it has a different badge and wheels/tires. Time for a new insurance company.

Nationwide quoted me the same price for the sport and the lx. They gave me the lx quote and then I got a deal on the sport so got that.

This might be a mistake on your agent's part and not the insurance company.
Make sure your agent is using "sport" as the trim level not the vehicle type.
