Smile Opinion Needed: Has my Accord been wrecked?

I recently picked up a new-to-me 2017 Accord EXL V6. The 1-owner Carfax was clean with all service records included. I purchased from a reputable dealer in the Dallas area that included a signed guarantee that all panels were original and they did not suspect any previous damage.

However, the more I look at the rear bumper the more curious I become. Based on the body panel gaps near the lights, I'm curious how it compares to other 2016 and 2017 Accord sedans. Should I be concerned about this?

Thanks in advance.

Since you got it from a reputable dealer, you should ask them to look at it. If they look underneath, they should be able to tell if there's been (repaired) damage, a replacement bumper cover. Or something as simple as a missing/broken bumper cover retainer clip(s).

Have a look at this thread: Re-aligning rear bumper.

Unless the paint looks different, I would guess maybe the previous owner tapped the bumper on another car or something. Can you see any mark at all (scuff/smudge) on the rear that could be a sign?

Most dealership aren't going to hyper-analyze a car to see if it had bodywork that's been done outside of the insurance process, or if the Carfax hasn't been updated yet. If you aren't experienced at examining a car for previous bodywork, you can probably stop by a reputable and friendly body shop, and ask them take a quick look at the car.

I can tell you that the panel gaps on the 9th gen aren't 100% aligned, and/or consistent if you compare the right to left side.

Have you tried pulling the bumper off and snapping it back together? I think the car probably got bumped a little bit.

Check and see if the paint is original; and it is easy to see if it had body works. Don't worry about the gaps; some of them have gaps from the factory. It can easily have gaps from a bumper bump.

Honda isn’t necessarily known for their fit and finish. Looks pretty normal to me

Look from underneath, should be pretty obvious if there's been bodywork done. But looks normal to me as well.

It's an Accord, not a Rolls Royce. Panel gaps and fitment inconsistencies like this are entirely normal. While it is possible there was previous damage to the car, it looks pretty normal to me. As EricP stated, look at the under/back side of the bumper and see if there is any signs of it being painted. When I had the rear bumper on my coupe replaced as part of repair, it was obvious from underneath as there were unpainted areas showing the factory black primer/bare plastic. Might not be as easy to tell on your black car, so look for Honda manufacturer markings and odd paint variations.

Yes it has been wrecked, and about 20K damage. The car is a death trap, as it was repaired in Belize.

Get rid of the car, you will never be happy with it.
