Tint guy tells me no problem tinting over dot matrix. Should I trust him?

Hello all,

I called a reputable window tint shop in my area and the guy told me he can tint my window over the dot matrix of the back windows without any problem in the future.

Meanwhile, I did lots of research on this forum and at lot of ppl are having the tint coming off or looking milky white over time. I told the guy that my online research showed a lot of ppl are having problem with tints over dot matrix. But he kept saying his shop is the best so no problem at all. Should I trust this guy?

What you guys think. Thanks

Good luck with that. I'm still dealing with mine.

I will go the safe route and not get that area tinted.

The first shop did a terrible job on it and refused to cut it out.

Went to another shop and got it cut out; with vinyl put on it.

Now I'm having issues with the vinyl, not laying all the way down. They have offered to redo it. I'm debating since it doesn't look that bad.

Dot matrix has been around for years. Does the tint go around every dot, No. Do I care, no. Just trying to keep heat out.

Way more important things in life then to be OCD about tint on dot matrix.

Tint the car and move on.

I would think twice about tinting over the dots. My tint guy told me of the potential issues with the dot matrix, and suggested vinyl since I told him I was picky about how it would look. He told me that the ceramic was thicker on Honda's than some other cars. We had issues getting the vinyl to stick completely around the dots and ended up with bubbles. Now, the viny has a tear whee he worked the vinyl over the dots. I need to go have it fixed because it's bugging me.

To do it over again, I'm not sure whether I try tinting over the dots, going with vinyl again or just leave them in covered.

My tint guy painted the dot matrix and told me Honda is one of the only car manufacturers that does the dots still.

Get it done by him but let him know that he is responsible for fixing it till you are happy with the tint at no extra charge. I did the tint and the dot matrix look so bad I had to put black vinyl on the outside to cover the dot matrix

I wouldn't tint over it, IMO.

If you care more about how it looks, don't tint over it. If you care more about sun protection, tint over it but be aware that it might not look too pretty.

Window tint is a film that sticks to the glass. How can a sheet of very thin film stick around each dot? Ask him to give you the names and phone numbers of a few satisfied customers who have Accords that he has tinted over the dots. Ask him for customers who's window was tinted a couple of years ago to see how it looks today. If those customers are happy with his work then let him tint your car with a warranty on the tint over the dots.

BTW my Accord was tinted when I bought it in July 2013 and didn't even notice that the dots were not covered. After about 10 minutes of concern I got over it and don't even think about it until I read a thread about the dots and tint.

Just tint over them and forget about it.

I've had tint over the dots on my '03 for going on 4 years, no issues.

My tint does not cover the dots. You'd have to be seriously OCD to notice it.

If you think about it for a minute, the dots are a form of window tint to keep the rear seat passenger's heads cooler.

My dot matrix is a little milky in some areas, I've gotten over it because I wanted heat protection.

Don't do it, unless you want "milky" like Peter said. My tint shop (that does very high end cars) tried to go over it on my '08 Coupe and it looked like crap, so I had it removed. When I got my '14 Coupe, they didn't even try.

Looks fine on my car. It acts up when I try to wipe the window down from the inside but once it dries it looks fine. Im not really sure what everyone else is talking about.

Just had mine done and they tinted up to the dots, looked funny at first but I'm already getting used to it, it would bug me more to look back and see it look bad covering the dots, so I'll live it this way, anyway the way my mirror is adjusted I really don't see it unless I look for it
