Sebring shows a Twin Turbo J35 V6

Is the future high performance J35 engine going to be Turbo charged / direct injected. The American Lemans series has a press release with details :

"Honda Enters Daytona Prototype Competition

In the companion LMP2 prototype category, HPD produces a complete chassis-engine package, including the ARX-03b chassis and Honda 2.8-liter HR28TT twin-turbo V6 engines, in competition with both Nissan and Mazda. This combination results in an impressive five-manufacturer lineup vying for Prototype honors in the 2014 TUDOR championship.

Both HPD-developed Honda engines used in the TUDOR championship are derived from the same Honda J35 series of production V6 engines and include relevant twin-turbocharger technology, along with the efficiency provided by direct fuel injection. Key production-based components that are utilized include block and heads, crankshaft, direct injection fuel system, valve train components, drive-by-wire throttle, alternator, sensors, fasteners, etc. The engine even utilizes a stock Honda oil filter."

Having owned turbo'd cars in the past and been faced with the repair bills when the turbos go out. I'll say no thank you...

If the accord was an all wheel drive or rear wheel drive I'd definitely be interested in buying a slap on turbo kit. As it is now, even if it was available I think I'd pass. With a few bolt ons, 300 HP is just about right for the drive train we've got.

Cornering capabilities are just too limited on a FWD to ever enjoy the turbo fully.

Yes for FWD the torque steer would really become too much but I was thinking along the lines of a SH-AWD transmission to hook up the power.

I've never owned a turbo but I've read about the Civic Type R concept which has a turbo 4 cylinder creating 280 HP. The weight reduction could be big in the scheme of things as efficiency of the engine is better. I've also read were Honda is using electronic motors to keep the turbo spooled up so there is no lag. I don't know about the gas mileage tho.

Had my turbo replaced twice under warranty on my passat. Lack of reliability and turbo lag has me thinking I'm not likely to go for another turbo. I'd rather have my plain vanilla J35. Would like to see honda offer a straight 6...I just think they're cool. Had one in my 76 Maverick and my 99 Cherokee and loved them both dearly.

I'm the same in that boat, I was considering getting a turbo car but I decided I just wanted straight motor and torque. Like the other guy said, if I could get 300 to the wheels in my accord I am more than happy with that. I did read up on the civic type R and it's not being released in North America but it is a beast.

Doubt it would ever happen. Would have to be a Type-R model or something, which Honda is moving completely in the different direction than years back. I'd be surprised how much longer the V6 will even be offered on Accords in the future.

Honda Racing RD will always slap turbos on their cars, not on street models

A 6 cylinder in the Civic Type R would be earth shaking. If you put a turbo 6 in a Civic Type R designed to handle to extra weight / power .. . unbelievable but that Turbo 4 cylinder was recently seen ..... I think they are gunning for the fastest front wheel drive car around the Nurnburgring.

It would be interesting to see an Accord Coupe SI or Type R version of the V6 Coupe. The Civic Type R looks to be a WRX / Mustang GT / Focus ST / Fiesta ST / competitor with 300HP possible but the announced version was a 280 HP Turbo 4 cylinder. Honda is going back to Formula 1 & I hope that means more than the Civic Type R in 2015.
