3.5L Differences between Honda & Acura

Hey all, anybody know what the engine differences are between the 9th Gen Honda's 3.5L and Acura's 3.5L? The 2014 Accord is rated at 278hp, 2014 TL 3.5L is rated at 280hp and 2014 MDX 3.5L is rated at 290hp. Im interested in bolting in some more HP if I can.

The Acura takes Supreme 91oct Gazoline and the other on is a basic 87oct. Its the fuel recommended by the manufacturer on the Owner's manual.

It's not a matter of bolting on parts that make the difference. It's a different tune in the ECU, which is why the Acura requires premium fuel as that is how the tune is setup to be. If there were ever any aftermarket tunes, you'd be required to run premium to take advantage of it.

Strap both (TL & Accord) to the same dyno and I'm sure both will produce similar numbers. It's all marketing.

Honda doesn't want to step on the toes of Acura.

The RLX and new MDX however have DI which could produce better numbers than the Accord.

A common upgrade on the 8th gen Accord was to get the ZDX intake manifold and throttle body. I'm not sure if the new Accord already has these parts from the factory.

You could also do something like this with dual throttle bodies. MWUAHAHA!

The higher compression ratios in the Acura is probably why they recommend premium fuel; and the combination of both (more so compression) is whats producing more hp if theres no other differences on the engine. Im thinking.....

The RLX has VTEC on both intake and exhaust with the Accord only having VTEC on intake. The RLX also has 1.0:1 more compression than the Accord. Im wondering if its just a computer mod that would make the Accords exhaust VTEC as well or does it have to be a whole head changeout to get it??? Wheres the 9th Gen gear heads at?

But does the throttle body restrict power enough to warrant that?

Cool mod though. It must sound ungodly amazing

I thought it was found that the 2013-2014 Accord puts down north of 300hp when dyno results were analyzed?

I've seen 246 for auto and 257 for manuals. Both suggest about 290 or 295 hp

I'm thinking it's mostly done for response and not so much horsepower.
