Reverse polarity

Hey guys, I apologize if this has been covered somewhere. I looked, but couldn't find my exact situation. My wife is a travel nurse working in California. Several months back her battery went bad. An old man who lived on the same rental property attempted to help her change it. In doing so, my wife says he connected the cables backwards for a second. I flew out the next day to fix this train wreck of a mess. Ended up changing the main fuse, which is normal, but for some reason I can't for the life of me troubleshoot the stereo, blinkers and flashers. The LED display, background lights and speedometer all seem to functioning fine. Is it possible the surge made it past the main fuse and blew the stereo? Even then, are the blinkers on the same line? She's been driving without blinkers, but it's only a matter of time before a ticket or accident is associated with it. Any advice, pointers or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

No other blown fuses? Burnt wires or anything?

It won't help with this, but suggest you join AAA (Auto Assn of America).
Last Sunday morning my battery came up completely dead. I called AAA and they sent a tech with a van who tested the system and battery, and replaced the battery for $135. Done in less than an hour, and I know my alternator is working. I could have saved a few bucks doing it myself, but why go to all the hassle?
Free towing if needed too.

There has to be some fuses somewhere that have blown, or a wire was melted in two during the swap. The fuse should blow much much faster than a wire, I would look at both the cabin and the underhood fuse blocks to verify continuity of all of the fuses.

If this is the only problem, she has no idea how lucky she is. This could have easily turned in to a huge bill and a non-starting car.

I almost did this to the VW Golf I had before the Accord. The Golf's previous owner wrapped the negative battery cable in red electrical tape. Big mistake - red is always positive, black is negative! I was an inch or so away from actually connecting that cable to the positive post before I realized what was going on. I took the car to a local auto electrical shop to get a new negative wire and mentioned what almost happened. He pointed to a truck in the shop and said "that's what he did, and it's going to be close to $1000 to fix".
