OBD2 Scanner Worth Buying?

Hello everyone,

Today is Amazon Prime day and while none of the deals are great I did stumble across this deal for a wireless ODB2 Scanner. What do you guys think is something like this really going to give me any benefit or tell me anything I don't know? Or would should I buy a better one if I wanna get one of these?

Thanks for the input!

The price is better than even Harbor Freight. I bought one because I was getting check engine lights on my old vehicle. Wanted to see what the code was, sort of self defense before calling the mechanic. What do you want it to do?

I just wasn't sure if it would give me any old codes or any new information with my 2013 accord. Or does the accord give you all the codes on the screen? More of a preemptive buy just in case I ever needed it I guess

The one I got is a unit on a cord, I assume that one needs your phone?
Did not read the specs of it. Mine just reads the codes and can reset them.
I think that's about it. Was $50 less 20% coupon = $40.

Okay thanks, did you find any use with your accord?

Unfortunately, yes. Hopefully those issues are behind me now.

I had a thread in the 8th gen forum, started in December '16 and ended probably January.
Dealer had the car for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Years for a misfire problem.
Details in that thread. A month or 2 later it went back for 2 pressure switches, vcm related, iirc.
Ended up costing over $1200. Since then it's good, knock wood.

OBD2 scanner was the best thing I ever spent $40 on... I even checked my parents/friends/strangers cars for them. Someone gave me $40 to check and it paid for itself... get one.

You don't expect to use it often when the car is still new, but if you had to use it once, it is worth it.

I bought a similar device for use with the Dash Command app on Apple devices. It didn't work at all, so I was out $20. There are lots and lots of these ELM327 devices for sale. Read the reviews. This one has 15% one star reviews. Quality of these cheap devices is really spotty. I ended up getting a PLX devices Kiwi 3 for a lot more money ($129), but it works flawlessly.

Dash command does a lot more than just read codes though. You can monitor a lot of engine parameters with it.
