Stock Radio - Snap, Crackle, and Pop! (Gen7)

I have a '04 LX sedan with the stock single CD radio.

About three months ago my radio started acting up...

The radio would emit a loud Snap, Crackle, and Pop and the radio would stop working.

If I turn the radio off and then back on again the radio works fine.

The problem is intermittent and may occur several times in a row (short duration between the shut down) to weeks at a time when it doesn't occur.

I was wondering if others have had this problem? I thought it might be caused by a loose connection at the radio which would require pulling the dash apart.

...any suggestions would be appreciated.

When the radio stops working does the screen go blank or is there just no sound at all?

The volume display disappears but I think the station and other info is still visible.

FWIW, I've had this same issue too.

The snapping/crackle only happens in the front passenger speaker, and the music keeps playing in all other speakers. I can change the source and it continues to crackle. If I hit the power button, it will stop, but will come back if I immediately turn it back on. I leave it alone the crackling fades out and stops after anywhere from 5-20 seconds. There is no pattern between episodes. sometimes a day, sometimes weeks. The screen does not go blank or change.

It doesn't bother me enough to warrant getting a new radio, although an aux input would be nice.

Something in the wiring isn't correct. Most likely it's in the main connector from the wiring harness to the radio.

Moved to the "Audio & Electronics" section for more input.
