Old to new TPMS?

Here`s a question that might have not been asked before...
I have a 08` Accord Coupe and was wondering if it was possible to upgrade my old TPMS (which has sensors in every wheel) to the new type TPMS which doesn`t (uses tire rotation to estimate tire pressure).

That's a great question.

I would say though with no real knowledge, that it probably can't without a lot of ECU programming.

Direct (with sensors in each wheel) uses antenna(s) that reads the data emitted from each "radio" and sends that to the ECU.

Indirect (ABS/VSA method) uses the speed of each wheel and sends that data to the ECU.

Two different data streams I would think. Direct sends temperature, psi, and a coded ID for each wheel. Indirect uses wheel speed from ABS sensors in the hubs and goes through the ECU.

Never saw an aftermarket indirect TPMS to be used on a car that never had TPMS (pre 2005?)

Just cause I didn't see one don't mean nuthin'. But a good question.

Is this a mind exercise or you just fed up with the tire sensors and all the problems with switching them for snows, etc ?

Not fed up with the tire sensors, I think I have a leak through one of the valves and was just curious if anyone knew if it was possible so I don`t have to buy new sensors when I buy new rims.
2 of my rims are bent and I had them straightened but now I get that `out of round` shake? and it`s been well over 100 miles and it hasn`t rounded out. I figured to replace all 4 with refurbs of the stock 18" rims and was going to replace the sensors at the same time so I won`t have to do it later.
I have an 08` with 45,000 miles on it, looking to get at least another 5 if not 10 years out of my Accord

I got a deal on aftermarket sensors that were a lot cheaper than Honda. OEM wheels? or something iirc.

I have sensors. It was just a thought to see if it was possible to do.
My main problem is a slow leaker on one of my rear tires. I don`t think it`s the rim or the tire but I`m switching to new tires first and rims a little later on and replacing the TPMS and was just curious if it could have been switched to the newer TPMS so I wouldn`t have to worry about sensors later on.

I agree the new type (non pressure sensing) are much better, but to convert would involve a lot of work if it could even be done at all. It might end up being cheaper to buy a newer car or better yet a roll of black tape to cover the light.
