Curb Rash (Chrome Stainless Steel Lip)

can curb rash be repaired on chrome stainless steel lips... i've been getting varied answers when calling shops. i've seen the DIY for painted rims, but i need to know how to get the curb rash repaired on my wheels.

Yes, but it depends on how badly damaged they are

i just have minor curb rash from scraping against curb when parking... i just wasn't sure if a process existed to fix curb rash on my type of wheels.

i also have a bent lip... what are the chances of them fixing it?

Talked to a wheel shop and confirmed that the stainless steel lip can't be repaired because it's a cap/cover.

However, what the shop can do is remove all the caps from my 4 wheels and refinish the wheel and the raw aluminum lip with a high gloss finish or whatever other finish i may want. This would essentially take care of the bent lip that i have and the curb rash that i have on all my tires. Price for all this is 450 plus cost to remount and install tires.

is this a good price? anyone have experience with having the the cap removed from their wheel and have the raw aluminum lip refinished.

it seems like this process would save money in the future because if i ever experienced wheel damage or curb rash, i wouldn't have the issue of dealing with a capped lip that can't be repaired.

i know it is, but new rim is 375 to 400 and it would still have a cap for the lip... instead, if i pay 450, i can have all my wheels redone (fixed and curb rash repaired) and the caps removed and have the raw aluminum polished in high gloss, which is easier to fix in future.

I would just buy ONE new wheel. Try to tap that one out a bit and use it as a spare.

new wheel is nearly as much as $450 to repair, paint, and refinish all 4 wheels...

Yeah, but that would still be a patch IMHO.

So i got my wheels repaired which meant I had to lose my chrome lip and have the aluminum underneath polished. definitely miss the look of the chrome lip, but i don't think the polished lip looks bad and plus now i have four rims with no damage at all and if i ever get damage or curb rash, the repair is much easier.

the wheels also had to be repainted. i don't think they matched the machine color perfectly, but i think it's a decent job. what do you guys think? can post picture taken in light later...
