Performance mod help for 8th gen 2.4 coupe

Hi, I just recently purchased a 2009 coupe 5 speed 2.4 i4. I really wanna do what I can to upgrade the hp. I do realize, its no vette beater, nor will it ever be. But short of trading up for the big boy v6 (remember just bought this car, so maybe will trade up one day, just not today), what are the best upgrades for my buck? I already know about adding a cone intake, but honestly dont like this option for a few reasons & as far as exhaust goes, I like my stocko system, But am open to ALL ideas. & if u have any arguments for or against intakes & exhaust upgrades, I'm all ears. send me any ideas please & thank you

I would add a cold air intake, exhaust, an i throttle. There isnt much else you can do that is very easy. I have a video of my intake down below. I love it because its a very light sound when youre cruising and it can also sound a little aggressive when you want it to. An exhaust would be nice as well and an i throttle will change your throttle response for the better. These probably wont get you much hp, but there isnt much you can do with an i4.

Honestly, the Z3 motor suffers from a lack of torque not horsepower. If I were to recommend a modification, I'm more inclined towards starting with a , followed by a and .

The're not as glamorous as I/E (mainly because you cannot see them once installed) but will go some ways towards restoring the torque lost with their OEM counterparts.

Get some "facto" air in your tires.

The Air Blend that comes from the factory is much better than the common air you can get anywhere else.

I'd use the search feature since this topic has been beaten to death.

Air intake would be a nice first step. K and N has gotten good reviews maybe a Cat back exhaust. You can do searches on both of these and compare. For some instant results I would also suggest synthetic oil, royal purple or mobil 1 and filter and you could increase your octane number on gas. sunoco exxon. k and n also offer a drop in filter not the intake.

best bang for your buck is UR pulleys and p2r downpipe, but with most of the mods you can barely put 180whp, you're better off going aesthetic or just get an intake+exhaust if you want the sound.

Thanks all, im looking into the ur pulley setup. Is this something I can likely install myself? Im pretty mechanically inclined (did an h22 swap in my 5th,gen). I ask because I live in gulf shores alabama, & believe me when I say there are no shops around I would trust to do something like this...

I would focus on handling instead of power. The 2.4 is never going to come close to the V6 in terms of torque and raw acceleration so spend the money on suspensions upgrades instead. The 2.4 will always have the edge on the V6 in this area due to less weight over the front wheels. Just my .02

UR pulleys are probably the best bang for the buck from a dollar to hp perspective. Pulleys are a pretty straight forward install, the hardest part for many is that the crank bolt is on tight and you may need a breaker bar with a pipe (unless of course you have an impact) to remove it.

Here's a link to the install instructions :

Short intake will increase hp and response and decrease gas mileage.
To increase gas mileage do try
fill up the tires properly
do not accelerate quickly
drive 55 mph
try higher octane gas
drive very boring like grandma.
good luck.

Higher octane is only for higher performance engines or for old, worn out, engines that knock on 87.

Have you tried higher octane gas? Do not want a long, boring argument so if you are sure it does not work then i am happy for you and do not try it.

But anyone else out there want to find out for themselves all it takes is one full gas tank of some Higher octane, quicker response, more hp and better MPG.

My opinion based on my 17 years driving hondas. Good luck.
