DIY: Shark fin XM radio antenna without drilling any holes. For aesthetics only.

Hi, my name is Gian and I just recently purchased a í08 PMM Accord Sedan. Since I got the base model which doesnít offer XM radio my car doesnít have that fin antenna Iím really digging so much. Long story short I decided to add an antenna and with a little creativity I ended up with a good result.
What I did first was purchase the Antenna from Hondapartsdeal.com, make sure is the color of your car by checking the color code.
This is how the antenna comes, if you can notice it has a bolt like connector which itís used to tighten the antenna to the roof. But all of that requires you to drill hole on your roof which takes a lot of nerve to do.

If you are like me and donít want to drill a hole in your roof and just wants the antenna for aesthetic reasons follow this steps: (DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK,I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ACCIDENTS OR MESS UPS, THIS IS JUST TO SHOW YOU HOW I DID ON MY CAR)
First I removed the screws holding the rubber piece to the fiber glass fin

Then I removed the metal part from the rubber piece.

This is where it gets pretty creative, what I did is use a couple of vinyl cards they give you in stores, like CVS, Walgreens, etc. Then I traced the metal part on the vinyl card and cut it with some scissors. I made the wholes with a small drill bit. Make sure the bit is close to the size of your screw.

Then what I did was put the vinyl pieces where the metal was at.

Then what I did was with scissors and a blade was flattened the surface so everything is even on the bottom. You can do the same or just leave like that; I did it because I thought it would help.
Once all of that was done I screwed the rubber piece back with the fin part. I made sure I didnít over tighten because doing so could break the vinyl pieces. This is how the final product looks like.

Then with some strong double sided tape they sell at discount auto parts (like $8) I glued one side to the bottom of the antenna. Then with a blade I cut around the antenna.

This is how the final product looks.

Now to glue on the car I measured to the best of my abilities and then proceeded to glue. If you are able to measure the antenna of friend so you know exactly where to place the antenna I suggest you do. I donít know anyone with the same car so I couldnít but Iím happy with the results. This is how it looks now.

What a really stupid thing to say.

Why spend money on mods when you can just go buy a 370z instead?

Just because you do not approve of the fact that he wants to make his car more aesthetically pleasing by spending some of his own dough doesn't require you to be rude about it.

Grow up.

I did it because I like it, I think paying a monthly or yearly fee for xm radio is a bit insane when I can plug in my smartphone with pandora and is for FREE! I like the fin and for only 23 BUCKS is pretty reasonable. This thread is to help people who LIKE ME didnt buy the MODEL that has antenna. Not to critisize. Thanks

Nice write up dude. Though, it's not something I'll be doing to my car. I know there's others that will learn from this and probably do it to their rides. Kudos to you

Sorry, but if you post something your subject to criticism. Its your car so that all that matters, but its pointless and ugly.

If it was actually connected, you wouldn't say that it is pointless. OP wanted the antenna look and didn't really care for the functionality so its all good for him.

Looks very good man..I like the antenna too. Mine came with it but I let XM go for various reasons but the antenna stays. A very thorough DIY that I am sure others will do. Folks like the look of the antennas. Good Job.

this thread its been a year old. but i'm going to chime in.
why are people calling OP dumb or stupid for adding the antenna? seriously if you don't like it just move on lol.
not for nothing the fin antenna looks great compare to the one who is completely flat. IMO the op shoulda went with the BMW ones, the fin is bigger
my car came with it, but if it didn't i woulda done this mod too!
