2012 V6 - 4, 5, 6 misfire

If this is previously posted please point me to that thread.

I have a 2012 Accord coupe V6 EX-L. I took it to the Honda dealer to get a misfire looked at and and flashing CEL. They told me my car was not part of the big recall/TSB they put out about cylinders 1-4 fouling and misfiring. Right now I am misfiring on all 3 front cylinders (4,5,6). The dealer said I need to adjust valves? Car has 80,200 miles on it. We changed plugs AND coils just to do the "quick" easy fix and it still misfired. There also now is a small RANDOM knock-isa for about 3-5 seconds.

Does anyone know of anything else to check before I tear my motor apart to do the valve adjustment? Of course this starts right when I post my car for sale! So mad because I am selling to get out of debt, NOT selling bc its broken. Now I am stuck. Any help is appreciated!!

Josh

Go another dealer. You should be covered under warranty with 80k miles. Some dealerships are buttholes and they don't want to do warranty work.

Looks like you're another victim of VCM.

Take a look at the spark plugs, that will tell the story on what has been happening.

HONDA says that TSB was only for affected 1-4 cylinders. My issue is in the entire front cylinders 4,5,6. Not sure if this helps

ALL 6 plugs are dark on the threads and the white "shaft" portion of the plug is tinted brown at the bottom. I have been told this is a compression issue but I am unsure what to check. Some forums/threads says just do a valve adjustment, some say timing belt kit bc it may be stretched due to miles (80k) and maybe slipped a notch? I think that is unlikely but I am also not a mechanic. lol

If you have changed plugs and coils, possibly it is not cylinders 4,5, and 6 but 1,2, or 3 causing your issue? Generally on these misfires only 1 cylinder is truly having an issue. It is always good to check compression, all cylinders should be fairly close to each other. The timing belt could have slipped but it is easy to check, by lining up the timing marks. The last person that had a multiple misfires issue on a V-6 it turned out to be a bad fuel injector.

Probably like mine cylinders 5 and 6 are getting trashed. Pulling plugs and a scope will verify if the cylinder walls are jacked like mine were.

Is your car an automatic or a 6-6 manual? Also, is your engine factory stock, or are you running any mods?

If all 6 plugs look similar, it's probably not the VCM issue, but a misfire coming from something else. Usually with the VCM, you'll have 1-2 plugs that look very fouled, and the others are relatively normal looking. I'd second the advice for a compression test.

VCM should affect cylinder 3 the most. Cylinders 1, 2 and 4 can also be affected depending on how hard you drive.

Mine is a Auto unfortunately. I have magnaflow cat back system, RV6 high flow cats, Takeda CAI, P2R throttle body spacer. Only use premium fuel (issue??) other than that, no mechanical mods. I was going to get Hondata or Ktuner but I WAS trying to sell my car lol. 👎🏻

My last vehicle kept getting a CEL and the shop could not figure it out.
I traded it in at a used car dealer.
Did not want to sell to a private party with that issue unresolved, and have them come back to haunt me.
Yeah, I got less money than I probably would from a private party.
On the plus side, it was easy.
