I can't imagine many people will want to do this. There's already something on the dash that indicates VTEC engagement - the tachometer. Just have to know the VTEC change over point for your engine. Just my opinion...

I have a 6-6, but remember reading the K24 kicks in at 5,300. Maybe that's what you meant. It's up there. And makes perfect sense, as it's proportional to the 6-6 (5K with 6,800 redline vs 5.3K with 7,100 redline).

And it's not a turbo, so forget about getting shoved in your seat. Take care.

yah... im coming from a 1.8t audi a4 and i think its an unfair comparison. man i miss that car...

1.8t > 2.4L ???

so im a little confused... what do you mean the k24 kicks in at 5300? im just wondering when vtec is triggered. and should i even feel any peformance gains from the vtec? it seems to me like vtec is pretty overrated...

Yep. It is IMO. Especially now that almost every other car has cam phasing, which is much more efficient, and it's infinitely variable over the entire rpm band, not just a 2-step deal like variable lift (aka VTEC). Both variable-lift and cam-phasing are considered 'variable valve timing'. Honda and Toyota use both on some of their I4 engines, by the way, but only Honda keeps using VTEC alone. When nobody had variable-valve timing 25 years ago, Honda had bragging rights, but now it's just a gimmick IMO; too complex and heavy for the little benefit.

I much rather get DOHC heads than the stupid VTEC on my V6. But the fact is amost all other manufacturers have DOHC heads, timing chains, AND cam-phasing on their V6s. Time to ditch that old news and give us what we want . Take care.

Good point JC, but have you been in a 4banger toyota with VVTL-i? It is not nearly as smooth a transition from low to high cams. The "Vtec kicked in" feeling is pretty much gone in Honda's, has been for awhile now, and i know those VVTL-i 4's are no longer made, but they really kicked you in the face when it switched over, more like the honda's of old.
