How long did your TPMS Sensors last?

So I need new tires - 2008 Accord Sedan (~43k miles). Should I replace the TPMS at the same time? I understand the batteries last 6-7 years? How long did your's last? I searched and didn't find any specific info - does this mean everyone's is still working fine?

I understand that if you drive more, the batteries get used more - the sensor must have a special low power state if it senses it's not moving. So the battery life is a function of time & mileage.

thanks

Interesting question. I didn't change mine when I recently got new tires. One or more sensors on my 06 Toyo took a dump last year, so...the TPMS light stays on.

Considering that to change the sensor the tire bead has to be broken and they are doing that with new tires I would do it when I got the tires.

+1. If they last 6-8 years and yours are 6 years old and you are getting new tires, the question would be why WOULDN'T you do it when getting new tires? Do you want to have them install them on your new tires 12 months from now?

If I can get 2+ more years out of the current sensors, I would just change them when they fail. If most fail around 6 years/50k miles, I would change them now - probably same some $ since they will have the tires open anyway.

I'm leaning toward waiting until they fail, since it appears they last quite awhile.

I think oem are about $112 for a set of 4 including the required gasket and nut.

[edit 5/16/14] Just found them on e-bay for $42 delivered for 4 (42753-SWA-316). So I bought them and will reuse the washer & nut - should be ok. At this price, I figured might as well replace them.

Changing them when they fail may be a false economy when there will be a additional charge to replace them later.

Would these be covered under the extended warranty or are they considered wear items?

Go thru Majestic Honda, for the sensor, the nut and washer with shipping (for me here in Ky) total is $38. The find a local tire shop to install and program for cheap.
