Wow look at that, 10 hours of labor! What happened to that "fixed with a fluid change" thing?

Go figure All of those arguments.....complaints and fixes that didn't work.

Who knows what is next....maybe ASPEC TL's cupping their rear tires in less than 2k miles?

At least they have a fix.

The GM Synchromesh was a temporary solution. I've read of a few people that had the 3rd gear issue return after driving 15K - 20K miles. Of course, your mileage may vary.

cool. I left a message for my service writer to call me back about this.

my dealer put in the GM fluid almost 6K miles ago. it's been flawless since. but I told him in the message that I was concerned for the long term IF I actually keep this car for too long, which I might......

will see what he says when he calls me back.

I assume he'll be happy to perform the work, especially since he has at least two documented repair orders and repairs for my car with this complaint...........

I had my car going in for service anyway and have on a few occasions had a quirky 3rd gear. THey found the bulletin, said they would put GM fluid in for now, and when the parts become available (not currently available) they will do the 3rd gear work. They said they had a few cars in line to have the work done.

...temporary (like beauty) may just be in the eyes of the beholder...............

.....dudes over at AcuraZine, et al are reporting 20, 30 and yes even 40k of flawless 2nd - 3rd gear shifting with GMSFM goo............................

However - IMHO - it's about time Honda/Acura stepped up to der plate.

Mine's been perfect on the GM fluid for probably 15k miles now... now I wish it acted up! None of the dealers around here would considering doing this unless it actually acted up. Even when it did act up, that was "normal". I'm glad they finally admitted the problem though... only took 5 years!

Thumbs up

This is very good news. Thanks for posting it!

How great would it be if you got this fix AND put in the GM fluid?!

I'm not sure I trust them to fix it right or just wait till I hit 60k and replace with the GM stuff. I have learned the hard way complex repair jobs are best avoided unless it an absolute necessity. I only get 3rd gear grind once every blue moon. Not a concern for me at all.

So to sum it all, I dont trust Honda Techs to do it right.

stevel, not all of them by any stretch. However, I look at the number of times i took in my Civic for even minor repairs and it blew my mind the number of times something else would come back broken in the process. I really wish I had a dealership in my area whose service department I could trust
