Exhaust already rusted already

Looking under my car today to see where I can pressure wash it due to snow and salt last few weeks. Then I notice the exhaust join already rusted. why didn't Honda paint it to protect from rurst?

My last Honda civic exhaust also rusted badly at the join, and I had to replace it. It was hard to remove due to rusted nut/bolt. I am planning to spray the exhaust with high temp paint.

That is the worst rust I have ever seen!

My advice is to sell your car before it rusts away.

Unless you get the whole thing ceramic coated, nothing you put on there will stay. It will burn off.

I painted my old Odyssey with this kind of spray and it stayed for a few years now.

Unfortunately the vast majority of factory exhaust systems are simply not designed to handle harsh winter weather and the crap they put on our roads...

Certainly you could get in there and clean off that surface rust and paint the exhaust with some high temp stuff...it probably won't last all that long, but it will help a little

And you took the time out of your busy day to troll with that post? Amusing, bro.

low down your honda fan defensive guard. My post is not meant to talk negative about Honda. I just state the fact that I am surprised that it is rusted this early. I am planning to paint it and encourage other to do the same.

I went through a painful work of replacing rusted exhaust one time (Civic) and don't want to do that again if I can prevent it early.

I don't think this is acceptable for a $30k car that shows rust so early. Honda should have protect it with something.

For those living north with snow and salt on the road half of the year, how long do you think this exhaust join will last?

I think it will last many, many years.

I'm curious, though, what $ value of car do you think this would be acceptable on?

Just because something is showing surface rust doesn't mean it is deteriorating, and this might even be intentional. Look up weathering steel or COR-TEN.

When I was in the dealer here picking up my car, they had a Civic Type R in the showroom. It had surface rust on all the rotors. Not the friction area where you'd find rust after a good rain, but a good amount on all the other surfaces around the hub. I found that strange. That flange rust though looks normal to me. To me that kinda of rust even this early on the exhaust manifold, exhaust flange metal, and certain parts of the suspension are to be expected. The person who owns your car 15 years from now may have to worry about it however...
