Angry Honda not wanting me to use a rental while repairing my Takata air bag recall

Honda has a dedicated website at wwwdothondaairbaginfodotcom for the Takata air bag recall. If you click on the Fact Sheet tab then scroll down to Table of Contents: 5. Dealer Repair & Rental Policy, and Support:
It states:

"Authorized Honda and Acura dealerships will make appropriate repairs for free – there is no cost to the customer. If an owner requests alternative transportation for the day of the recall repair or longer if a replacement part is temporarily unavailable, Honda and Acura dealers are authorized to provide a free loaner or rental vehicle.

Dealers may now loan vehicles to teenage drivers, who are generally prohibited from renting or borrowing vehicles due to insurance policies. Honda has also increased associated reimbursement rates to dealers, and empowered them to loan and rent vehicles to registered owners of vehicles for the day of the recall repairs without seeking pre-approval from Honda.

To support dealers, Honda management and field operations staff are in constant communication with dealership principals and employees to ensure they are aware of the latest information and policies concerning the recall, and have the capacity to repair customer vehicles promptly."

Yet I cannot find any dealer or anyone at the phone number listed on the site to actually do as Honda says it will. I rent rental cars all the time and I am not a teenager but like a teenager I do not have full coverage insurance. The above middle paragraph specifically states that a rental car can be given to me during the repair. This is ridiculous. How can Honda not honor their own rules?? Anyone know of a corporate number to contact someone to make these people honor Honda's standards? I've already called the 888 number and the 800 number with absolutely no help at all.

It takes them about 20 minutes to install the airbag. You shouldn't need a rental car.

I have liability only insurance on my cars, that doesn't mean anything to the rental car place. You pay for insurance on the rental car so the coverage you have on your car is not an issue.

Anyway.

You can go to for contact info. Here's what it lists:

Or you can go here and open a trouble ticket with them (one of the categories is "dealer experience"):

It's not just Honda. The Mazda dealer near me also wouldn't give out a rental. It's more dependent on the individual dealer than it depends on the cooperation.

And yeah, it can be done on the same day. I don't see the need for a rental.

When you rent a car, your insurance policy for the rental car is the same insurance coverages as your personal car . If you do not have collision on your car the rental car would be covered for liability only as well with a rental. Normally, the rental agency will make you get LDW ( loss damage waiver) sometimes called CDW (collision damage waiver). Not truly insurance, it just means if you damage thier car the rental car agency will not come after you.

Some Credit Cards offer collision protection as well, but it is secondary behind your automobile insurance.

Having said all that, schedule your appointment and you will be in and out in 30 minutes.

I know dealers around me are okay with free taxi rides. They will cover any trip under 15km(10mi).
