A car made in Japan does not impress me anymore. We have a Kia/Honda dealership and the Kias completely made in Korea all to my hands have better build and fit and finish than the Hondas made in Japan.

The Fit is totally made in Japan and a few I have sat in have gaps in interior panels. Meanwhile the Spectras and Rios feel better.

Only difference is psychological. My Ohio built 7th gen has less rattles than my 330i.

+1.

I've got a 7.5 gen Accord coupe, built in Ohio - never a problem with it, except for the known 3rd gear problem. I also believe anyone who thinks a car built in Japan is better, the difference is all psychological.

I notice on the forums that some of the 8th gen J vin owners like to point that fact out as a feature that makes their car more desireable and/or problem free somehow.

I wonder if it's a ploy to separate themselves from the rest of the Accord owners and/or exclusivity to effect their resale value?

I have 8th gen made in Japan, I got thinking it would be better than the ones built in the US and I was wrong I have had so many problems with it, that I dont think it makes a difference.

Both of my Accords were produced in Marysville, Ohio. In MY opinion, these particular cars are just as good as...if not better than...many of the Japan-built units I've seen.

Furthermore, I regard what we build in my home state of most excellent quality. I should remind you that the Odyssey, the Pilot, and (recently) the Accord Sedan V6 are manufactured in Lincoln, Alabama.

I saw a commercial at the movies last night that said they were building a plant in the U.S. to build Kia's here. I LoL'd...Koreans building a plant in the U.S.

I'm gonna buy a Kia Rio and get a sticker the same size that has a giant American flag and says MADE IN THE U.S.A. and then drive into oncoming traffic.

My 2004 EX 4 banger 5 speed was a J spec. I had none of the problems associated with the US built models of the same year. There was a recall on ALL concerning the airbags and the rotors but it was a 45 minute fix at the dealer. No rattles, no squeaks, no brake problems, zip. You'ld play hell convincing me the J spec models were not better than the US models, at least 7th gen.

The Toyota I had before the Accord was J spec. The Mazda before that was J spec. Our current RAV4's are J spec. See a trend here?
Back in the 70's I drove Corollas 100K+ per year and bought a new one every year for many many years. They never broke. Would I rather buy one from the Big Three? Yes I would with all my heart.......but not until they get their shit together. The only domestic I would consider now is Ford.

yup.. i have two 8th gen accords.. one J spec sedan and a coupe (all coupes are made in the US) My sedan is just built so much better than my coupe. Just a coincidence? I dont know. But my sedan is smooth, quiet, no rattles, no creaks, glove box is aligned. My coupe on the other hand has rattles galore. It even drives differently. Sedan the gear shifter, parking brake, steering wheel is just smoother compared to the coupe. OH well i love my coupe still though But if they had a coupe made in japan i definitely would have wanted that one instead

i recommend everyone watch the movie Gung Ho. It's a comedy but part of the comedy and why its so funny is because part of it is true.

We had a '01 Canadian-built Odyssey that seemed to have less (meaning specifically 0) issues than it's American built counterparts. Currently we have a '07 CR-V built in Japan, no issues since day 1 except not enough power and poor fuel economy.

My Ohio built 7th gen hasn't ever had a problem more than rattles that were fixed with a dealer visit when it was basically new...

The only pro/con I can see is that when people 'comment' on you having a foreign car, if it was built in Ohio, it's more American than a Ford built in Mexico!

My 05' Coupe, built in US, has been just about problem free for 4 years now, the minor issues were windshield fluid pump failure, fabric lifting on inside A-pillar plastic trim, minor squeaking on driver side window, and a slightly sticky rear-view mirror.

Overall I am actually very pleased with the car, however I have to admit it was a bit of a gamble when I bought this American built vehicle, as I have only ever bought built in Japan Hondas over the previous 22 years.

I guess I have to say in this case, I am a happy owner of an Ohio built Accord.
