I have an Actron PocketScan Plus OBDII Scanner. It's really small and displays the code along with a small description of the item. It ran me about $70 on Amazon.

I've got one that I picked up at Autozone several years ago. Made by Actron. Don't remember how much I paid for it, but one similar to it is listed now for $230. Don't think I paid that much, but mine is a little different. Does very well and so far has worked with any OBD II vehicle I have plugged it up to.

I have an Actron CP9180. It works great, but has more features than I need.

An OBD2 scanner is a handy tool to have if you service the "family fleet" or when buying used cars.

I got a $30 eBay special years ago. Does the job to display the code and clear but you need the manual to decipher.

Got one from Harbor Freight for arround $35 on sale. Fairly basic - reads and clears fault codes, shows readiness codes and provides a description of code in addition to the number (nice feature). Does what I need.

I forgot to check back in. I had bought a XiTech XR-90 Advanced OBD2 Code Reader for $30 on Amazon. Worked great on my wife's Dodge Nitro. It pulled up the code quickly, although i had to look up what it meant online, and it cleared it easily (it only had to do with the gas cap, which if you own a 2007 Nitro, you know the gas cap is a piece of crap). Anyways, tried plugging it into my 2011 Accord and just to see if it would communicate with it (I didnt have a check engine light on at the time) and all it said was LINK ERROR. I figured it wasn't ever going to communicate with it so I returned it for a full refund immediately. So basically, i got a free code read on my wife's car. Which is something that the O'Reiley store down the street from me refused to provide. Moral of the story, if you own a newer Accord, don't get the XiTech XR-90 Advanced OBD2 Code Reader from Amazon.

I use an ELM327 and the torque app with my phone, 5$ for the app, 25$ for the bluetooth dongle elm327. You can log with it, its a bit laggy, and has developed some connectivity issues at time. If I could do it again I would have ordered a PLX Kiwi instead of the ELM327.
