Maintenance Required Light...

My light came on this weekend. My car has 13,000 miles, so i have a couple questions...
1. only 13,000 miles and i need maintenance already?
2. should i goto the dealer for this? (gonna be there anyway for my "free" oilchange sometime this week)
3. what are they going to be doing maintenance on?
4. If i do let the dealer do this, how much is it going to cost?

Any help will be greatly appreciated... thanks!

When's the last time you got your oil changed? If it's over 5000 miles ago, then get that done and reset the light. You might also want to rotate your tires. Just follow the maintenance schedule in your owners manual. You don't need any major maintenance done on it until around 60k miles.

The info about resetting the maintenance required light is also in the owners' manual.

I've only seen mine lit up once and that was when I hardly drove the car so I wasn't really racking up miles or carrying it for maintenance as much.

The '05 Maintenance Req'd light goes on according to mileage. It starts to flash and go out at 6500 miles since the last reset and stays on after 7500 miles. The dealer forgot to reset the light the liast time you brought it in, that's all. I wouldn't worry about it. If the Service Engine light comes on, on the other hand, I'd try to find out what's wrong with it ASAP!

On a side note, you really don't need to change the oil every 3000 miles. If you drive even 60% highway and don't drive many short trips (under 10 miles) back to back, I'd stick with an oil change schedule of 5000-7500 miles. 7500 if it's 85%+ highway, 5000 for most conditions. Tranny fluid should be drained and filled at least every 30k miles.

Seeing how John brought this topic up I'm not going to start a new thread about it just for my car. I have a '91 EX Coupe with about 224K on it and the Maintenance Required indicator just switched to yellow last night. I've only had and driven the car 2,000 miles, in that time I've had the oil changed, new rear tires, and air filter changed. I'm guessing this indicator is programmed to come on at a certain interval?

Yes, it's entirely based on mileage. To reset it, stick your ignition key in the slot next to it and push it in. It will go back to green for another 6500 miles. The 6th gen is similar, except for that it's a light.
