too good to be true?

after taking a longer than expected break from removing wallpaper, i went on craigslist and found this:

too good to be true?

makes me wonder if i should buy this as a backup/bad weather/cross-country trip vehicle?

Could be a maybe - 200K on the clutch, needs other repairs, they don't get that great of mpgs as the design creates a lot of wind resistance & it is older 4x4 tech.

after reading it, only thing that looks to be wrong is the IAC valve. the other stuff was replaced.

yes, i do know that the MPGs won't be great on it. but, i'm not buying it for that. i would like to have it as a backup vehicle/snow vehicle.

It would be a great snow vehicle as it has the better (older type) 4x4 system. My cousin had a 2003 4X4 CRV, took it when he went hunting out west, never a problem. It was great to ride in also. Call the guy & see if he is orig. owner, any accidents, etc. Same engine as in the Accords (4 cyl.), may sell fast as winter is upon us.

Update:

So….to be clear….I’ve driven it approximetely 5k a year for 3 years. * It was running like a champ when I broke the foot. * Then the next summer when i was able to drive stick again it was running fine until the starter went. *I replaced the starter and upon starting it up I experience the idle surge issue. * It was drivable but not a good idea. *When attempting the linked video in the ad I snapped a screw off that set me back. * That is where it stands….. *In the driveway with the throttle body off and waiting for someone to fix it…..Hence $1000.

--------------------------------------------

That is from the seller.

Should I bother? What am I really dealing with here?

You are dealing with a unknown ! Is the person (stranger) telling the truth, are other things wrong that are not being disclosed, you may not be able to drive it until the repair is made, did a better deal come a long & that is why he really is dumping it ? If the car was in such good shape before snapping off the screw head then why didn't he fix it then sell the car being able to get more $ ? Look for something local maybe if that is what you want to do. Maybe the seller is just tired of dealing with it though, you can't know for sure. If you are hesitant, that should be enough to pass it up.

So seeing as this is a 200k mile 2003 Element with a busted IACV and non-working TB with 4WD and could get you around town in the snow for a little work only 1000.00 and could empty your bank account clean off, Do you feel lucky?

Well ? Do ya ? stiller fan?

That catalytic convertor replacement makes me think possible engine problems. Massive misfires? Fuel injector problems? Get what I'm saying?

I was thinking of using this for longer-distance deliveries during bad weather.

The guy is the second owner. He did tell me that supposedly, it only goes through a quart every oil change.

Your MONEY - Your RISK !!! A qt. of oil used every 5K (per change once a yr.) is quite different than 5K miles being driven in a 2 week span.

He hasn't driven it at all, and probably short-distance trips when he did. Lack of use = abuse. I'd walk away from it.

Unless you can DIY 99% of things, then go for it... otherwise, walk away from that money pit machine.
