Buy 2017 CR-V advice

Close to getting a new CR-V.

I would rather buy a used one but must be 2017 or newer just because I like the look.

Any advice on where to get what and especially when and how to deal with the dealers?

Will there be promotions now, year end etc?

any advice or shared experience would be great.

No one will know when, except those working for Honda, but just like any other car, watch your local dealer site and then keep track of any incentives for the '17s.

They've already started stocking some of the 2018 Hondas where I live...although I don't know about the CR-V, in particular.

Which incentives are best ? It seems like if you get a 0% or 0.99% financing you just end up paying more up front/ getting a bigger principal.

yep, you have to do the math on that.
Sometimes financing incentives are better than the rebates, but it depends on your term, and credit rating of course.
And if your credit is not "A-Tier" than the rebates may be better...you won't know until the announce them so it's pretty moot, at this point.
