2017 Civic EX-L Turbo CVT

Bought a 2017 Civic EX-L Turbo CVT as the wife's daily driver.

I now have her 2006 Accord EX-L V6 Auto that bought new for $22,500 in Oct 2006 - 120,000 miles.
Other than maintenance (fluids, timing belt, brakes, etc.) the only things the Accord needed were: motor mounts, radiator (convinced the mechanic who did the timing belt broke the overflow nipple), the throttle position sensor, and stupid little stuff - drivers door release cable (what a freaking mess that was - all the plastic clips that broke in the process of replacing the cable), trunk release, groaning auto HVAC mixing actuator (just opened it up, cleaned it out and re greased with silicone paste), blower resistor.

After 3000 miles, I like the Civic almost a much as the Accord...almost... The 11 year old Accord is still a nicer / physically comfortable car inside in terms of seating and space than the Civic is. The Accord is still (but not by much) a larger car that is easier to get into and out of and has more interior room. The VTEC V6 is a monster and all the engine one would ever need. Gets about 20-21mpg in town (cause I drive it like is has all that hp) and 28 or so on the highway doing 80. Other than that - the new CIVIC wins.

The biggest difference in the Civic is the NVH has been drastically reduced. Wind noise, road vibration, tire noise, engine vibration...all have been tamed in this vehicle. It is quiet and smooth. It is very comfortable and easy to drive for 7-8 hours without feeling beaten up. Other than when accelerating from a total stop (0-30 or so) where there is a noticeable growl, the turbo 1.5L is very quiet and feels like an electric motor. The CVT takes it to 3,000 rpm and it pulls like a wimpy Tesla. The motor has plenty of power and you hardly realize that you are going 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 mph. It just gets you there without much fuss. When you nail the throttle it gets up and moves. Very quick and responsive. Gets 30 mpg in town and 40 on the freeway. 45 is probably within reach if you set the cruise control on 65 - 70 mph for a freeway drive.

I'd never pay for a hybrid when this kind of economy is available in a car that burns regular.

If you drive a lot of highway, then yeah, a regular ICE will do better than a hybrid.

Hybrid engines are typically small and have to work hard on highways.
