K24A8 Oil Leak Above Oil Filter

Hey guys. I was changing the oil on the Accord today and I discovered an oil leak on the back side of the motor, above the oil filter. I am trying to find the source. It looks to be emanating from that block of metal sticking out where some kind of sensor is attached. It is dripping down the side to the back edge of the oil pan. First question is, what sensor is that? Oil pressure switch? Could it be leaking from a bad seal where the sensor attaches? That would make sense. What else in this area could be leaking? Thanks

That could be the vtec solenoid system, there is a gasket between that and the block.

Anyone have any experience with leak detecting dyes? I'd probably buy this dye and light if I ever saw a leak.

Found this post at ephatch.com, very helpful.

Looks like I am going to be inspecting the VTEC system a little more. I wonder if this has anything to do with my oil consumption problem? Is that a cover held on by two bolts that I can pull off to inspect the VTEC components?

I'm experiencing the same oil consumption issue. About a quart every 2000-2500 miles.

As a matter of fact, I'm about to try it on my GF's car. I've already purchased an LED UV Flashlight....

Dye I will purchase soon...

Looks like your oil pressure sending unit is where your leak centers around.

I haven't gotten a good look in a while, but I'm pretty sure my leak is coming from the CPS (Item 'I').

Does anyone know what number 4 in this photo is? They skipped it.

11412-PNA-000 COVER, CHAIN CASE

That is number 4

I know that part because that was where the Accord in that $135 quote was leaking from. I never did fix it.

What is this part? Next to tensioner.

To me it looks like it may be coming from above that. Oil drips downward and its covering that protruding block shape. Maybe its one of the VTEC/VTC components. Then again, I don't know how much pressure the oil is under at that point but I'm sure oil under high pressures could do anything.

Some of the issues I currently have with my car are excessive oil and gas consumption (1 quart oil per 5000 miles and 18/19 mpg at best) The only check engine light I've had is an intermittent P0139.
