Quarter Panel Damage! need some opinions

I just had my car hit in the quarter panel starting from the edge of the door where it opens to about 4 feet back. The grooves in the door are also ruined. My insurance company gave me 1500$ estimate to fix it but i think the damage is too bad to just pull it out. If anyone has a better idea or a opinion who is more familiar with body work. Also wanted to know whether this would be considered a totaled car. I will post pics of the damage on my profile.

If they are paying u to fix it, the car is not considered totaled. An estimate is just that, when the shop works on the car and finds additional damage, they go back to the insurance company asking for additional money. You can talk to the body shop and ins company and tell them you want a new panel instead of having it straightened and filled.. you might need to fight with them a little... but stand your ground... ins companies are always trying to pay less.. keep on them..

Most insurance companies are giving people a low ball estimate, hoping you will just cash the check. Take it to a shop and have them do a supplement once they get into the repair. And its no where near totaled.

My wifes celica had the quarter damaged pretty bad (similar damage amount as yours) a while back to the point I was like "you want to repair it vs. replace"? I let them repair it and all was Ok for many years as it held up well even when we sold the car this year. I did not care since the repair had a lifetime warrenty.

Remember, when they start replacing body panels, everything has to be put back just right.

Since you did not say what year your car is I would guess it could be nearly 10 years old as mine is an 03. If so, what is it really worth putting all that into it for new panels, etc and how long your really going to keep it after the repair?

$1500 will definitely not cover that, from most shops. But, that's what supplements are for. Good luck!

you'd be surprised what some shops can do...shop around and see what people say they can do. I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled it, added some bondo, repainted and called it a day.

Name, thanks for the pics.

Mi, did they offer you a check for $1500? If so, don't do that. As others have said take the car to several repair shops and get estimates.

Sure glad they didn't hit your wheels.

Quarter Panel Damage! need some opinions

I was side-swiped and pushed into a curb 2 months ago and the insurance company tried to cut me a check for $1000. Since it wasn't going on my insurance, I sent it to the most expensive and reputable shop around and the bill ended up coming to $3800. I laughed my ass off when the appraiser first gave me his appraisal. $1000 barely gets you in the door if any amount of paint work is to be done. Also, OP you may want to pay the extra for OEM parts for the sake of proper fitment. Most insurance companies install aftermarket crap to save their bottom line. I paid $250 extra for OEM parts and it was 100% worth it. My car now looks better than when I first bought it used since they detailed it for free. Bottom line: insurance companies can't be trusted.

They did a new estimate. Took it to my dads buddies shop and he pulled out the dent and painted the whole side for $700
