Key fob battery is dying…

Well, after more than three years of faithful service, I think the battery in my fob is on the fritz. Any suggestions where I can get a new one? Is it just like a watch battery that I could have replaced?

Thanks.

go to CVS, it's bigger in diameter than a watch battery, but it's the same concept.

I believe it's the CR2032 battery... You can check by unscrewing the screw, then popping the cover open. CVS, Radio Shack, Circuit City, etc should stock your battery. It's pretty common.

Wow - what a novel concept -- take it apart and find out (I feel a little stupid)...

The battery is a Panisonic 3 volt - CR1616.

I'll check out walgreens today during lunch and see if I can find one.

I was shocked at how much lent was inside my key -- guess that is what happens when its in your pocket 99% of the time.

Eh... It's close enough. I don't have a mini screwdriver handy to take mine apart.

That's not lint. It's insulation! It helps keep the rattling down.

Then I can think of a few more places Honda needs to place some "lint."

Nah Honda's problem is not that they need more lint, they just need to hammer their suppliers and start getting better quality lint.

He could just swap the keys instead.

I'd just replace it with a new battery anyway. They're pretty cheap (a few dollars at most) and you won't damage the screw on the other key. Besides, a new battery is better than one that's been sitting for a few years. I would also not want to ruin a brand new key with a leaking dead battery.

By the way, the numbers on those types of batteries indicate diameter and thickness.

I would try wal-mart or k-mart before I tried radio shack...they charge $3.99 a battery, I bet wal-mart has it cheaper. I just don't support radio shack for anything unless I have to...they are way over priced. A lot of there stereo stuff is Pioneer equipment with their badge on it, then way over priced.

*laughs* love the lint comment...

Yes, I wish there was some lint in my headliner... damn thing is making noise again. Back on the list for the next service visit. I know I'm going to have to start all over again and say "this is the fourth or fifth time you've look at it... so I'm not paying. If it would have been fixed right the first time - we wouldn't be here now"... *sighs*

I usually buy their clearance stuff. You'd be amazed at some of the things you'd be able to get for a song in there!

My best bargain was the $20 desktop trunk tracking scanner I bought at a Radioshack in Manhattan. Price when new was over $200. I still have it and use it regularly.

I agree. Don't buy a battery from radioshack. Better to buy it from walmart or K-Mart or even a watch repair stand in chinatown.
