03 Accord starting problem

The car will not start sometimes...I have to turn the key several times before it starts

when you try to start it; it does nothing ... you have all electrical functions inside the car, the radio, fans, windows, dash lights, moon roof, etc ... just no attempt at starting, it's like it's not giving power to the starter. I have noticed that on some occasions, if you apply more than normal pressure to the ignition switch, it will start. Another weird thing is that it only seems to happen when it's warm outside.

from my research I learned that older accords had crappy main relays, but I cant seem to find a main relay for 03+ accords. I just finished paying it off and i have no warranty so any help is appreciated!

thanks!

If you have a 5sp it might be your clutch switch? Please provide info. on your car in your signature.

right before I called a tow truck to take it to the mechanics, it magically started. I have no idea whats going on!

I decided to replace the started anyway, and see what happens. apparently there are a few others who have reported this problem, but never got around to reporting how they fixed it.

Could also be loose wiring. Check that before you check the starter, could save you a couple bills.

Replaced the starter, no dice.

Car still has the same problems. Someone else reported that when this happens the starter is not actually receiving any power. So it could be the signal wire that's faulty, any idea how i can go about replacing it?

Can someone provide a diagram of some sort that shows all the components of the starting system? Also is there a main relay or a starter relay that I can look into replacing?

Thanks for the help guys

The battery is fine, its only a month old.

before i go about replacing the ignition switch, I want to replace the main relay and the starter relay. Can someone tell me where those are located? I cant find any info for the life of me...not even places that sell replacement relays!

Have you thought about picking up a Hanes repair manual? Available at your local autoshop, and it contains pretty much everything you'll ever need to know about your car.

i'm having the same problem. mechanic did a full AVR and says the battery is fine. he suspects the ignition switch, but that's several hundred dollars, and it's really just a hunch on his part...

he says the starters in these cars are pretty decent, and doesn't suspect it to be the problem.

any other luck with this problem? i don't want to start dropping hundreds if not thousands of dollars on my second hand, 245,000km, 03 car that's probably worth all of 5000CDN now.....cause i've already put a good amount of money into repairs already..

Replace starter relay in underhood fuse box first. If that does not work, locate starter, have someone hold key in start position & tap on starter solenoid, if it starts, its the bushings in the starter replace it.

When I turn the key to position II the "D" light comes on for a few seconds and goes off, the car turns but won't start. Then when I release the key after a few seconds it's a buzzing from the ignition area. Replaced the ignition switch but still having same problem. Help please ?

I have the same problem and have yet to find the exact cause of the intermittent no-crank issue. There are a few threads which discuss the problem with none of them concluding with a difinitive resolution. In fact, there are at least 2 people who, like you, have gone so far as to replace the starter to no avail.
In my case, there is at least always a "click" when I turn the key and experience the no-crank issue. The good news, for me anyway, is it always starts - I just have to keep trying a couple more times before it starts cranking. I've checked every component associated with the starting of the engine and found each to be in proper working order. The only thing I haven't been able to successfully do is be under the hood with a multimeter and a hammer when the issue presents. Don't get me wrong.... I've tried! I've been under there with a remote starter hooked up, multimeter ready to go and a hammer and long socket extension. The 2 times I've done that, I could not get it to not crank to save my life!

Here's another recent thread which discusses this issue:
Accord not cranking randomly.

It has now become your sworn duty to update this thread with any and everything you try, attempt, throw at the problem, etc. in an effort to resolve the issue!

Good luck and God bless!
