Stock V6 Dyno Question

Has anyone dyno numbers on an Accord bone stock V6. An engine pulled and put on a dyno, whike completely stock?

Crank HP figures only please, and include year and model.

The reason I ask, is to find out if Honda under rates thier HP true figures.

Had an excellent mechanic friend drive my 06 Accord sedan, and he said " feels like about 265HP". The offical Honda numbers are 240HP, aren't they?

Appreciated,

Allan

With regard to feeling like 265 hp, I owned a 265 HP 2005 Nissan Maxima 6spd manual (255 SAE corrected HP) and I'd say my 2007 Accord is equally fast. It has a little less low end grunt but more high end surge. I have no idea what the wheel horsepower is for each car is, but I am genuinely amazed that this SOHC 3.0 liter on regular can move a 3,350 pound car as quickly as that DOHC 3.5 liter on premium.

To drive a car and quote the horsepower "that you feel" is so absurd it's not even funny. You really cannot take this person serious can you? Like his ass dyno could feel and judge + 25 horsepower over a stock quote.......right. Were you guys sharing a pipe or what?

How many people do you think have pulled their engine out and got crankshaft dyno readings? This has to be a joke thread.

A better question would be wondering what the wheel hp is.

If you find out the horsepower is more than the rating, will the car go faster? Isn't it butt dyno?

92 EX Sedan auto (RBM) - sold after 12 years (140k miles)
03 EX V6 Sedan auto (NBP, then Ford Blue) - traded in after 13 years (135k miles)
16 EX I4 CVT with sensing (KCM) - 14,000 miles so far

The guy is abrillant mechanic. I've seen him trouble shoot several cars in minutes
and be right. He had no idea what the Honda was rated. He just dialed up his ass dyno and gave a figure.

Not many people would pull an engine and dyno it. Unless they were serious about knowing the exact effect of modifications. You need a starting point. It's called a "before" .

I don't expect many to have done this. I'm looking for at least one.

I don't want to the HP at the wheels. I want to know what stock Honda engines accually put out. So I'll know if Honda fudges it's HP nubers like Porsche does.

The best way to attempt to confirm Honda's claimed crank HP is to find a dyno chart and work backwards. Here is a dyno of a 2004 3.0-liter 6MT.

Stock 04 Accord V6 6MT Dyno

It shows 197.2 wheel horsepower. Like JohnB wrote, most manuals have about a 15% powertrain loss. To crudely approximate crank horsepower for this engine, divide by .85. That puts this car at about 232 crank horsepower. (If you assume an 18% power loss, 197 wheel horsepower translates to about 240 hp.) A 2004 3.0-liter is quoted at 240hp. Based on this test, it appears Honda does not understate their power.

My stock with premium 190bhp K24Z3 pulled a 168whp on the dyno, if this matters.

I've read about guys getting about 215whp stock with the 6MT. So many variables we'll never know for sure. If i had to guess i'd say the 240hp for the j30a4 is underrated, as is the 245hp for the j30a5.

The nissan 265hp is DEFINITELY overrated. Great car tho.
