i searched, but could not find a DIY oil change tutorial or how many quarts the 7th gen 4cyl accord requires...finally making the switch to synthetic at 65k.

The K24 has 4.4 qts (4.2 liters) of oil.

I wouldn't just pour exactly 4.4 qts in after the oil drain though. You'd probably want to pour in 4 qts, and then slowly pour the rest while checking the dip stick constantly so you don't go over.

If you sign up at ahm-ownerlink.com, you can view the Owner's Manual online and find out other specifications.

Don't bother with synth oil unless you live near the arctic circle or are physically unable to change your oil at 5000-6000 miles.

More changes of plain oil is better for the same costs, about 2:1.

I used to agree with this statement. However, two oil changes ago I used Pennzoil Platinum synthetic (Had a $15 rebate), and when I changed my oil the next time, it was amazing how much sludge came out, so I'm sticking with synthetic from now on. It cleans all that crap out.

but if you have been following an accepted maintenance schedule synthetic is not needed. The only thing it wil help to do is lighten up your wallet.
The inside of an engine does not have to look like a sterile environment to run for many 100's of thousands of miles
I guess it's your money, and if it makes you feel better, use it

If you do it yourself, it's only like an extra $20 per year! That's money well spent IMHO.

Buy synth at Walmart when on sale.

About a $1-$2 per quart.

Then go 8-12k miles depending on which synth you buy.

Much cleaner engine less work.

Extra protection in case of loss of oil pressure.

the manual recommends 4.4, i may have mistakenly put in about 5qts (due to not being able to read the dipstick)...i know overfilling can be bad .what is the best way to drain out some oil ???

7th gen 2.4L takes 5 quarts if you change the filter - period - regardles of what the manual says. 5W20 5-quart jugs of Motorcraft Syn Blend at WalMart for $11.20 is the best oil for the money - outstanding quality. Cheapest syn oil at Walmart is over $4 per quart in 5 quart bottles - just over $2 per quart for the Motorcraft.

I bought my car with 40k, and the original owner must have done only jiffy lube jobs. I put in M1 & Wix. Oil got very dark, very fast. I'm following the oil % meter. I have 30% on the meter with over 6k miles. So I'm guessing it's a 8-10k OCI. It's actual cheaper to follow the meter, and run a syn than running dino at 5k intervals. I love the oil % meters. Saves me time, running a Syn is just insurance on longer intervals. So I can have my cake and eat it too, cost & longer intervals (time). While following the factory maintenance schedule. But I agree, on 98% of cars today, if you're just doing 5k intervals (no meters) Dino or M.C. Blend is the way to go. Technically you can go the longer intervals on Dino if you follow the meter, but that's just over the cheap end for me.

4.4 yes, however after adding in the oil filter it's just about 5qts. I add 5qts to my k24 at every oil change. Oil comes right to the full hole on the dipstick.

And Synthetic is not a waste of money. For a extra $20-30 a year you get a lot more protection for your car's engine.
