dash kit advice??

I looked around a bit on the forum and found a few but I figured I'd ask in this thread since it pertains to my generation. I'm looking for a dash kit for an 06' accord. All I have seen online is that Metra brand one that everyone says is flimsy. I have aslo seen people convert from nonNav to Nav, but I just want a dang dash kit lol. Any advice??

Only two radio kits available are:

The one that puts a single DIN where the current radio goes. Cheap looking IMHO.

The one that replaces your cubby area with a single DIN. You lose the cubby, but retain the stock radio. The better of the two.

Or you could go to a custom shop and have one fabricated.

The Metra dash kit is ugly, and it has been known to kill your AC. Not recommended.

The lower pocket is what most people do for aftermarket head units. Your original stereo is retained in the dash for controlling the AC only.

You can convert your Non-Navi 7th Gen Accord to Navi. I did it. Browse eBay for "Accord Navigation" and there is a listing for a complete plug and play kit, with custom wiring harness, which is the only way it can be done.

Here is the eBay link:

The OP has a 7th Gen Accord, not an 8th Gen Accord.

Smile My custom dash work in progress

I have an LX accord. My stock radio CD PLAYER died on me. Which gives me an excuse to purchase an aftermarket radio. This generation of stock radio is a pain, but i am committed to getting this type of custom work done!!!

So i just purchased the Pioneer F500BTkit (NG500 AMP - IPOD PLUG - UNIT) 6ave.com.

This is what i would like to do initially:

-REPLACE H/U with F500BT
-Use current dash and custom make it so that the unit can fit into dash (mounted)
-ADD A 3-4.5" pioneer speaker on top of the dash for surround sound
-CUSTOM PAINT THE ENTIRE MIDDLE PART OF THE DASH (including cup holder) TO A GLOSSY BLACK

I have a friend that will help me out. But i do have a question and or need help with one thing:

Since this is a portable unit, i want it so that i can be able to remove at any time, but that when i install it back into the car it is mounted in dash (no wiring and it looks like a mounted unit vs. portable.

Does anyone have suggestions on what might be the best route? (no, i cant get a different radio) ;p

Yea I know volume on this unit is only 20 but with the added speakers and Sub's i have i should have a nice but not great sound that i am ok with since i have kids.

Any help would be nice. Thanks
