03 Accord V6 Automatic gas Mileage???

Ok guys... So i just got my Accord the other day.... and have noticed that the gas mileage isnt very good.... I havent been driving it very hard or anything.... but i can definitely tell that im not getting great mileage out of my gas..... I just wanted to ask if there was anything other that correct tire pressure/clean air filter that i can do to possibly gain better gas mileage.... Clean some sensor in particular or do anything special to get better mileage....

I have A 03 Accord EX V6 Automatic...with 81,000 miles on it.

Any help would be great!! Thanks!!

Perhaps you could clarify the mileage u are currently attaining, maybe it's in the ballpark of what you should realistically expect. I have an 04 V6, 6MT and average around 24-26MPG. This is mainly city driving, with short highways trips. I currently have approx the same mileage on my car as you do..

Well i have like a quarter tank left when i got the car... and only got like 50 miles out of it.... and now i refueled with V-POWER 93 Octane gas.... and have only put like 50 miles on the tank... and it has already moved noticably away from FULL.... not quite exactly between 3/4 and full but close.... Ill monitor the amount of miles i end up getting out of this tank before i really get concerned... but it seems to be pretty crappy thus far... so was just wondering if there was any common issure that could be easily fixed(sensor cleaning or something) ... other than tire pressure and air filter obviously....

If I do hard city driving, I will get about 300-350 miles to a tank. On the highway, I've achieved 34.2 mpg on a road trip with about 454 miles on that tank. I usually get in the twenties range, which isn't too bad for the amount of power!

Maybe the gauge is off. I'd run the whole tank (maybe 2) and calculate mileage and then see how far you are. We got a V6 MT a month ago, ~70k .
The first partial tank mpg was way low. 2nd was ~24. The first hiway tank was 30mpg exactly!

I run regular, no premium.

2003 V6 Coupe, auto transmission. I am averaging 24-26 with a mix of city/highway. All highway I can get 30. There is a great iPhone app for logging mileage. During the summer running the AC all the time, I can drop as low as 19. The original mileage spec for the '03 V6 is 21 city, 30 hwy.

You're not going to get better numbers using 93 either. Use what is recommended, 87.

You'll average 21-22 MPG.

With an 03 V6 automatic sedan I get 21-23 around town, and up to 30 easy on the highway if I don't hit the floor with it too much. You need to check the mileage to know how bad it really is.

Ive never put 93 in my car but I occasionally put 89 in my car and everytime I have Ive got about an extra 30 miles or so out of the tank and I drive the same thing everyday. It also seems to run smoother as well. I normally average around 25-28 depending on if I run a lot of in town on that tank or not

Looking to make a nice car even nicer....

FYI, on my 03 v6, the last quarter tank on my gauge goes a lot faster than the first 3/4. Actually, the first half on the gauge lasts awhile and then once I get under half it seems to drop quicker. Calculate it after the entire tank. I normally get ~24 in town. On the highway I get a little over 28.

On the J30A4 engine which I believe is in the 03-05 accords actually GAINS power and performance from using 93 octane gas. Usually it would be pretty bad to put premium fuel in a car that doesn't require it but theres a 10hp gain from premium fuel

that aside im getting around 300 miles on a tank of mostly city driving.

Your method of determining gas mileage isn't anything remotely accurate. If you really want to know what kind of gas mileage you're getting...

1. Fill it up and reset the trip odometer
2. Use up at least half a tank and fill it up again.
3. Write down the number of gallons you pumped and divide that into the number of miles shown on the trip odometer.

Do this a few times, then come back and tell us what kind of mileage you got.

The gas gauge is not even remotely linear or very accurate.

To maximize your gas mileage, make sure that your tires are inflated to at least the recommended air pressure and try to keep the RPMs as low as possible when cruising along. Void jack-rabbit starts and coast when coming to a red light/stop sign.

As far as 93-octane, it won't help your gas mileage whatsoever... use what's recommended... 87 octane. I will say, however, that the 93-octane will give you a bit more HP... whether or not it's worth the extra cost of using premium is up to you.

Ya im still working on the tank of V-POWER that i put in.... and still have about 3/4 tank... I did reset my trip meter(which i always have) and havent been driving very hard on it or anything.... After i fill up again i will post as to what kind of results i find.... I do a pretty good mix of city/highway driving..... so it should be pretty accurate as to what my average MPG will be.... thanks all...

BTW, how dirty the air filter is apparently does not impact gas mileage...
