Trailer brakes have ZERO affect on the Accords 1000 lb towing limit. And the law varies state by state regarding which trailers need brakes, on average its anything over 3000 lbs. And some of the math and numbers brought up here are ridiculously wrong.
Those who say not to tow with a 4cy have never towed with a 4cy.
It is FACT (oh yeah…stated as FACT) that there is nothing wrong with using the Accord (and most 4cy’s) for light duty (1,000 lbs) towing.
The most I’ve towed with a 4 banger is 1900 precisely weighed via truck scale pounds with my 04 CR-V, and it did exceptionally well. It was rated to two 1500lbs, the hitch 2000. I was very pleased. But would I pull it out of state and travel, HECK NO!!!
This whole jet ski thing is skirting the limits. I typically never advise to tow above any ratings (I’m all about ratings and specs) but I know the hitch is good for 2,000 lbs. So if I stress the car with extra pounds, I know not to do it for long or often and to be on high alert.
The best advice though, is not my own. Launch concerns. Great point. Leave the launch to another vehicle, and IMO you’ll be ok towing the two skis on occasion.
Only have one pic of the Accord towing ATV, and I cant find it!
