DDM Tuning 4500K HID Review

Haven't even had the car a month yet and I took the HID plunge. Traded my '10 TSX for the Accord and missed them alot.

Tried the CrystalVision halogens. Light output was ok, but as you can see, it still was very yellow when comparing to my LED strip bulb replacement:

However, there were slightly whiter than the stock bulb:

But alas, as you all said, they were not HIDs. So I went with the DDM Tuning kit. Couldn't go wrong for $40 (I got the 4500K 35w kit).

Install was easy, just mounted the ballasts to some other wires in the engine bay. Not alot of working room on the drivers side near the battery but I got it done in less than an hour.

At first sight I was happy to see HIDs again. They blend much better with the LED strip bulb I put in from CHH: Name: ImageUploadedByAG Free1363691796.164931.jpg

Yet I thought they were more on the blue side than the white side (as Glen Has mentioned. I have to agree).

Cutoff seemed a bit higher than the halogens, but that might just be me being self conscious about having glare towards other drivers. Took a short trip and didnt get flashed though.

However, I was convinced that they were MUCH bluer than OEM. So I took them to compare to my friends TSX:

Confirmed. MUCH MORE BLUE. Almost makes the TSX look like yellow halogens here (accord is on the right above, and obviously the left below):

So I'm less than thrilled. Contacted DDM and they said they have a new bulb (which I got) that has a "hint" of blue. Apparently they no longer have the "older bulb" which was more white. If I wanted blue I would have ordered a higher kelvin, no? Based on how blue they are, I wonder if their 3000k bulbs would be more of what I am looking for! (Kidding. Kind of.)

Thoughts/suggestions? Really didn't want to shell out $100 but looks like I may be heading that way. Should have saved the $40 and bought the good kit from the beginning...

Absolute hid 4300k kits nail the OEM look, color is perfect. I think morimoto produces the same color too, but can't confirm...

Cant you just switch out the DDM Tuning bulbs for ones from another manufacturer? The ballasts/wiring on the DDM kit seem sound, so it would be a shame to lose that.

I thought of this, I have the 35w kit so in theory would I just need new 35w bulbs (unless all the bulbs are the same and wattage depends on the ballast?)

Are these the kits from Canada? Dumb question... But I'd assume that their prices are in Canadian dollars? So would my credit card be charged less than their quoted amount due to the currency difference?

Anyone have any coupon codes?

yes...the DDM kit is perfectly fine for the quality of ballasts/connections - it's what I use...just get new bulbs at TRS or absolute for $25 or so...they connect the same way...

Good review, kinda what I expected. I'm debating ordering the 4300K from TRS, or waiting until they have an H11B bulb in 4300K.

DDM really needs to correct this mislabeling. Don't market a bulb at a set Color temperature when it clearly is not.

Hey if the DDM ballasts are just as good, then maybe I end up ahead of the game by just buying quality bulbs?

Now you guys are convincing me to swap out my 4500K DDM HID bulbs with a 4300K bulb

Question. Since there is a big difference in price which bulb is the whitest and the best?

$40
$75 for Phillips & $25 for Xeon Depot

I doubt anyone would know unless they owned both...but both companies do straight up business, so I think either would work...

Agreed... I'm almost embarrassed of the DDM color. I feel like a 16 year old in a pimped out '96 civic dx hatchback.
