Premium Sound Upgrade Questions
Hello All. I am new to the forum but have been viewing for some time.
I have a 2017 Accord Coupe EX-L V6 with Navi (premium sound).
I am planning to upgrade the stereo system by replacing the door and rear speakers, adding amps and a sub (probably a single 10 in a trunk box). I have been reading lots of posts about the best way to get the audio signal to the aftermarket components. While there seems to be no definitive answer, I would love to know what has worked well for others. Obviously, the two main choices are to grab signal from the HU (before the amp) using some type of conversion to RCA cables or to use the post amp signal and run it through something like the AudioControl LCQ-1. Have people had good results with both approaches or is one superior for some reason?
I would love to be able to retain the factory fader. If I go the LCQ-1 route, I would plan to run all 3 sets of speaker wires to the LCQ-1 - front, rear, sub (see below for a related question). I am hoping this would result in the fader still working. While I do not know this for certain, I am guessing that I could adjust front/rear fade using the LCQ-1 in any event if this is not possible.
In addition to any general thoughts, I do have two specific questions.
1. If I use the LCQ-1, I understand the factory amp has both tweeter and mid outputs for the front speakers. If I use the mid outputs to connect to the LCQ-1 “front” inputs, will I get a full range signal or is the mid crossed over in the amp? If the signal is not full range, am I better off just taking the signal from the rear speaker output on the amp and use only that to get a full range signal into the LCQ-1 (I understand I would not have the factory fader anymore and I have seen other posts on how to do the wiring)?
2. If I go with the pre-amp signal, I understand that I would need an amp that accepts Balanced Differential Inputs. Any suggestions? I will either go with a 5 channel or a 4 channel plus a mono for the sub. I have found a few by JL Audio and AudioControl, but they tend to be on the more expensive side.
Thanks in advance for any help.
