OEM Navigation system install

Hi everybody,

Do you guys have any idea about listing on ebay?

I'm so curious if we can install this aftermarket.

Please google the part number and you will see it is not what you think. Unless you want only a microphone assy.

If you wanted OEM Navi you should have went with Navi equipped models.

It is more expensive to install it after the fact even though Hondas Navi is already more expensive compared to some other brands.

Hmmmm, an interesting topic. I don't recall seeing a post about anyone retrofitting Navi. It can't be more expensive to retrofit, no? I mean it costs $1,800 more for the Navi model.

Since there is already an iMID screen in non-Navi models, I can't imagine the Navi module (with HDD) and the trim piece with a joystick costing $1,800. I could definitely be wrong on this. Does the Navi screen have a higher resolution than the EX-L version of iMID?

Generally you will have some wiring that will also need to be swapped including the GPS antenna. In most cases the install is where the money can start adding up, especially if the entire dash has to come out to swap the harness (not saying that it has to be done in this case). Most of the OEM units are buggy with lack luster updates and limited upgrade capability. If you are on the hunt I would wait on the aftermarket dash kit to come available and use an aftermarket in it's place.

A nice Magellan for $99.00 does the job efficiently. Plus savings of +- $1900.

we have a garmin setup in our accord and really like it.

I love the way it shows which lane to stay in. For example, if the highway has 5 lanes you need to say in the the left two lanes to continue it will represent that with an arrow image on the top left. Very convenient (instead of looking at signs just stay in the lane it tells you to!)

It also updates for accidents and traffic. However, it's not as good as Waze app for that. It's not as updated so unless the traffic prob has been there for a while it's not gonna show up. Or it's late to clear (nothing there but still says vehicle on shoulder or whatver).

But yea man save the money! You'll get a better navi unit too.

The only advantage to a built-in nav system is that it's built-in.

I can't figure out why anyone wants a built in navigation system. A car is a long term investment and the GPS technology is constantly evolving. Honda charges a ton of mony to update the database while portable ones offer free updates. The best thing about a portable one is that you can take it with you when you fly somewhere and rent a car. If you have a smart phone then you may already have a good GPS by downloading an inexpensive app. If I were a realtor or salesman who used my car for business the built in one might be worthwhile.

The OP didn't ask our opinion on whether buying an OEM Navi is a good idea. He has apparently decided that he would/might like one.

If someone wants a Navi for $1,800, let him have a Navi. It's his money. If one of your friends start dating a rather unattractive lady, would you tell him she's hideous and he should instead date a hottie? I hope not.

I believe it would be very difficult to achieve! But everything can be done if one has enough time and $$$

Go with the mirroring route. Cheaper, don't have to pay to update the maps, and it is the future.

Oh yeah, OEM look too.

I would guess the OP chose another route due to all of the equipment required to get it all working.
