Post 3M Super Strength vs Scotch Outdoor Mounting Tape

I'm face with a dilemma, I don't know which tape to get. I'm looking for a strong bond, I was leaning towards the 3M but Scotch is basically part of 3M Comp. and Scotch holds up to 5 lbs. Here is what they look like.

What are you trying to mount? Most people use 3M VHB tape.

I'm trying to mount my decklid spoiler.
I tried to look for 3M VHB tape but couldn't find it anywhere. The 3M website is so confusing and they had many types of VHB.
Also, I thought that they only sell the VHB in big quantities.

If you have an AutoZone, pick this stuff up. Works fine for what you are trying to accomplish.

I did go to AutoZone and Pepboys but couldn't find it. All they had was the Super Strength (the first picture).

They had those too, but the guy pulled this stuff from the back as it wasn't displayed. Call and see if they have that model number.

I just put mine on with the 3m super strength molding tape. It's holding strong after a week, i let it cure for a day or two (it's been about 70F in my area when i did it) and drove about 150 miles on a not-very-smooth highway, and it's solid as a rock, just make sure to get any wax and other substances off the spoiler and the trunk before you do it. oh, and it also rained the past 2 days and no problems

I even messed up a bit (put it a little too low) to a point where some of the tape isn't making contact with the trunk, i'll be fixing that this weekend, but even without that, i couldn't take the spoiler off even if i tried (if i did, it'd probably rip the paint off or something).

the VHB would just be added security.

I used the 3m SS tape on my deck lip and it lasted over a year with no problems. I removed it a couple weeks ago and it was a complete bitch to remove.

The red box "Scotch" red tape outdoor stuff is serious, I have it mounted under my plate lights for my backup camera (used instead of mounting screws) and has been solid/air/water tight for 2 yrs and might i add through numerous car washes and the worst winter Ny has had in awhile, I'd say its worth it!

The scotch stuff should be fine. It holds 5lbs per inch or so, right?

I've used tons of that type of tape to put up signs on buildings and they never drop off. I usually go for the 3m stuff at Home Depot but I've used some other brands a few times that looked very similar too.

Thanks guys for the input. I'll probably go with the 3M since it's designed to work on cars.
I'll stop by AutoZone and check if they have the Automotive Acrylic Plus Attachment Tape.
