Hey! I have been using that avatar for a few years now! Its my boi shiron. I posted a picture with an MLP thing in it? Just remembered while I was typing this, I think you are referencing that picture I had of my nissan maxima where I had Spyro the dragon poking in. I did watch the first two seasons of MLP and a tiny bit of number 3, then kind of just stopped. I don't even know how many seasons there are now. I don't know if I would really call MLP and furries related, and pony fursuits are pretty cringey, so nah. Haven't been to any convention yet, except for anime weekend atlanta. I think I counted 8 furries there. They are actually kind of intimidating, there was a guy in a suit walking around with a wolf head and it made him look probably about 7 feet tall. The only convention i'm planning on is FWA this year, and we'll see from there.

I have heard about the drama plenty, haven't experienced it firsthand, so I can't really say anything about it yet.

Coulda swore it was MLP. I would've known if it was Spyro, that was my first PlayStation game and I love Spyro <3 My bad if not. It was like, a lanyard or something. Oh well! It just seems like a popular thing in the fandom is all.

I never been to FWA but friends of mine have. I've been to AC, MFF, Furfright and FA:U. Maybe if we ever end up at the same con, we can hang out

Its hysterical to me that the first LGD you mention is the one we have, and the one that maybe two thousand people in the ENTIRE COUNTRY know about! Small world man, let me tell you. Ours is a girl, named Gus (kinda like the Johnny Cash song) and she is smarter than eight out of ten people I meet. The females are the better sex for guarding small livestock (like goats/sheep) as they are the more active of a male/female pairing for this breed. We would like to get her a companion, male, but the thought of TWO of them in one yard, we had to get the power company to install a curb-side reader for our electric meter because no one would come into our back yard even escorted! She is as tame as a housecat with any of us (wife, daughter, myself) but that is IT, anyone she doesn't know gets treated like a coyote or a possum, that is to say eaten whole or flung to bits.
On the hobby side, I worked in a gun shop for a decade from 1996-2006 and have a collection of rare, obscure, interesting pieces to prove it, though ammo prices in the last few years have made going to the range a rare treat. I can shoot on my property, but mainly do not as excess gunfire around here usually results in your house being burgled while you are at work. I also build plastic models, entirely cars, no manga
Gundam stuff. I have so many built that they occupy a large portion of the basement of my house, much to the consternation of my loving spouse. I also have rediscovered my childhood love of Lego, and have amassed a small collection of car related Lego sets (the giant Porsche GT3 is on my bucket list) I also dabble in REAL cars, although I currently am without an antique/classic I have had a few over the years including a 1940 series 62 Cadillac coupe that I sold to finance a Chevy mud truck a few years back. The saying I find most true about hobbies is this: Any pursuit is a PAST-TIME until you have to get a job to support it, then it becomes a HOBBY.

Aww! Where'd you get your Sarp from? There's a breeder in PA, IIRC they're called Shar Mountain kennels. I have a few friends that visit family in Russia/Ukraine and every time they go I ask them to bring a puppy back for me lol.

If I was to get a plane I would get a T51 mustang. Some of the actually use the J35 engine, others use a 2.7L suzuki V6 which apparently sounds better.

The folks we got her from have since gotten OUT of the shar business for reasons unknown. We visited their farm in central VA twice, once to pick Gus out of a litter of eight pups, and again about six months later when she had been trained and socialized properly by her mom and dad. Her father was (and is) the largest non Great Dane dog I have ever seen. When sitting with his butt on the ground the top of his head was right at my chin (I'm 6' tall) mom was about half his size, but still easily a 110 lb animal. I don't know that there is a lot of money to be made breeding and selling them here in the states where there is a really, really small market of folks who plan to use them as they are meant to be used. Keeping a shar purely as a pet (god forbid indoors!) with nothing to do/no animals to guard would be like torture in a way, like buying a Lamborghini Huracan Performante and using it to deliver newspapers...

Please don't read that last bit as any sort of judgement on your motivations for having a LGD, that wasn't my intention AT ALL. We just picked up another ewe last weekend and she is still getting used to Gus, the farm where she was born has a "guard llama"!

No worries, I would never get a breed like that as a house pet. Living situation would have to change quite a bit first lol.

A family that we know through our daughters involvement in 4H got themselves a pair of Great Pyrenee' about a year ago. They had never owned dogs before and live "in town" on a 1/4 acre in a sub-division. Those dogs absolutely RUINED their house/property! Pyres are famous for being "wanderers" as they are not territory specific animals by nature, they will follow their charges where ever they happen to go, and in this case they had no charges so they just kind of came and went as they pleased. No fence could hold them and they began to kill all the outdoor house pets of their neighbors (making the family rather unpopular as you can imagine) I have wondered since they told me their sad tale who the breeder was who thought that they were a good fit for those dogs, but oh well. They were able to "rehome" the pair to a sheep farmer about thirty miles away who has been very happy with them, now that they have something to do with all their energy.
