are you speaking of 7th gen nuts or 8th gen nuts?

do you have a flow chart available?

That is because they are one of the hardest nuts to crack. Using a conventional nut cracker is near impossible. You will not only break the nut cracker, you will break your patience as well! There are only three ways in which one can reasonably crack a macadamia nut at home. You can use a hammer, a fitters or carpenters vice grip pliers, or a commercial grade nut cracker designed specifically for macadamia nuts. This extremely hard shell also plays a part in the high cost of macadamia nuts. It is extremely difficult to crack open the shell without breaking the nut inside. This also is why macadamia nuts found in the shell are anywhere from forty to eighty percent cheaper than shelled kernels.

I always did wonder about cracked/unshelled nuts... is it done by hand or by automation/mechanically?

They are expensive because it's very hard to get those little Macadamias to hold still, they can really run!!

Some of the old trees on the Big Island were lost in the volcano. Shipping stuff to or from Hawaii is costly. Main reason we now live in TX! Same sort of weather here as there.

They are WONDERFUL covered with chocolate!!

They were a little cheaper there & I brought several home. All gone now though......

What? I lived there 2 1/2 years and never had or needed air conditioning. That dog won't hunt in Texas.
